Soldier killed, seven terrorists killed in DI Khan IBO: ISPR

On Tuesday, one Pakistan Army soldier was fatally wounded and seven terrorists killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) conducted in the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan district, as reported by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). This operation followed credible intelligence on terrorist presence.

ISPR reported that security forces launched the operation early Sunday morning after receiving reports that terrorists were using a hideout to plot attacks against security personnel and civilians. Troops successfully cordoned off the area before engaging the militants and engaging them in an intense exchange of firefight.

During the firefight, seven terrorists were shot dead while one Pakistan Army soldier ultimately sacrificed himself as part of his dedication and service to their nation – ISPR paid tribute to this soldier and paid their last respects, honoring their courage, dedication, and sacrifice in protecting society against terrorism. They stated in their media wing’s statement:

ISPR reported that weapons, ammunition and explosives had been recovered from terrorists, who were active participants in multiple terrorist activities such as attacks against security forces and targeted killings across the region. A sanitization operation is currently taking place to ensure there are no remaining militants present in their surroundings.

DI Khan remains an area of great concern due to its proximity to tribal regions and cross-border militant movement. Security forces have recently ramped up intelligence-based operations throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to neutralize terrorist threats and prevent any planned attacks, according to officials who say these counterterrorism operations form part of a comprehensive anti-terrorist strategy meant to maintain law and order and ensure civilian safety.

Prime Minister and senior government officials condemned terrorism and extended condolences to the family of a soldier killed by terrorist networks operating within their nation. Leaders also reiterated their resolve to continue operations against these networks as one official noted: “Our martyrs’ sacrifice will not go in vain”. One official also reiterated this state commitment against eliminating terrorism altogether.

Local residents reported hearing gunfire during the operation but later returned to normal as security forces secured the area. Authorities advised citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities immediately.

ISPR highlighted Pakistan’s security forces’ strong determination to end terrorism within their borders, noting “such sacrifices further strengthen our resolve”. They added that Pakistan’s armed forces, working closely with intelligence agencies, will take decisive action against militants.

Security analysts cite intelligence-led operations as playing an essential part in dismantling terrorist networks by targeting militants using verified intelligence rather than large-scale military action, thus minimizing collateral damage while increasing operational effectiveness.

As Pakistan battles terrorist groups, its latest operation in DI Khan highlights both its security challenges and the sacrifices made by security personnel. Once again, Pakistan mourns the loss of an outstanding soldier while appreciating all that the military is doing to prevent further bloodshed.

ISPR concluded its press briefing by declaring that the Armed Forces stand united with their nation in fighting terrorism and will conduct operations until peace and stability have been fully restored.
