Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short his official visit to Saudi Arabia when learning of the attack, returning early Wednesday morning. The Indian Express reported that Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy group affiliated with banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the attack. Initial investigations indicate that assailants may have come in from Kishtwar in Jammu to Baisaran through Kokernag in South Kashmir before reaching Baisaran via Kokernag in south Kashmir. Indian authorities have responded to the attack with increased security operations across Kashmir. In response, a Cabinet Committee on Security will convene soon in order to determine further actions. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir administration called a special cabinet meeting in order to address their security concerns as well as ensure the safety of residents and tourists alike.
