2025 | Terrorism in Pakistan

On Sunday afternoon, three Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were tragically killed when their vehicle was struck by militants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). This event happened in North Waziristan District which has seen numerous insurgent activities as well as clashes between Pakistani security forces and militant groups.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police and military sources reported that an FC convoy traveling along a remote road near Mir Ali was ambushed by armed militants using automatic rifles and explosives; their attack was swift and well-coordinated, leaving no time for security personnel to respond properly in defense of themselves.

Three Frontier Corps soldiers died and another personnel was seriously wounded, according to an official statement released by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). Following the assault, militants responsible fled from the scene immediately. Pakistan’s military has started an investigation to track down those responsible.

North Waziristan has long been considered an incubator for militant groups, including remnants of the Taliban and Pakistani terrorist organizations. Despite numerous military operations conducted there over recent years, this area continues to pose one of Pakistan’s greatest risks; oftentimes attacks target both security forces and civilians alike.

This attack comes shortly after a major counterinsurgency operation by Pakistan Army to disrupt networks responsible for such attacks, with security forces working actively to improve both civilians’ and military personnel’s safety in this region. But militant threats still pose significant danger.

Funerals of the martyrs were conducted with full military honors in their respective hometowns and were attended by numerous members from their community who expressed their grief and anger over this latest attack, many who have long been affected by militant groups versus security forces.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers and condemned this “unprovoked act of violence.” He promised that those responsible would be brought to justice; further declaring, “Our forces will fight terrorism with unwavering resolve; their sacrifices won’t go for nothing.”

Pakistan Army issued a statement emphasizing their dedication to eliminating all forms of terrorism within their borders, emphasizing how such “cowardly attacks will only further solidify our resolve to eradicate extremism and secure peace across our region,” as per an army spokesperson’s words.

Opposition parties have strongly condemned the attack, with opposition leaders demanding stronger measures to ensure law enforcement and military personnel remain safe and secure. “This attack highlights the necessity of more comprehensive strategies against terrorism and extremism,” according to Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, leader of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

Local authorities in North Waziristan have implemented additional security measures across their district and launched raids in an attempt to identify militants responsible for the attack. Roadblocks and checkpoints have also been set up, while additional personnel have been deployed in high-risk areas.

Conflict in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and surrounding tribal regions has left numerous families reeling from their losses, while Pakistani security forces struggle to secure them against insurgencies that threaten stability in these areas.

As investigations into the attack continue, families of FC personnel killed are left mourning their tragic losses while Pakistan’s security forces stand firm in their commitment to maintain peace and safety for its people.
